Edward Venn: "Analyzing the New" is a far from neutral act: it presupposes that the object of study belongs in some way to the category of the 'New' (however it is defined), and it assumes that this object can be analyzed meaningfully. Any methodological approach, and the research questions that motivate it, therefore needs to account critically for its underlying ideological and aesthetic background. This paper will consider some of the issues and methodological consequences of searching for the 'New'."

Raivo Kelomees: "The easiest way and a kind of an art historical routine to analyze the "new" is to compare it with previous events, artworks etc. The result is not very encouraging, as everything is done already. The other way is to ask if art is related to biography of the author. Then it becomes much more interesting."
